This is Seth Maffit. He is my 2nd great-grandfather. Isn’t he handsome?
Seth was born 3 August 1875 in Saint Anne, Kankakee, Illinois to Seth Potter Maffit and Esther Brouillette. In 1901 he married Emma Esther Jerrain in Chicago. They had at least 12 children together. In 1945, Emma died. After her death, Seth spent some time living in Spokane to be near his daughter, my great-grandmother, Hope Estelle Maffit. Estelle was a photographer and very talented at hand coloring her photos with oil paint. This photo comes from the collection of her daughter, my grandmother.
In 2014, I shared a black and white version of this image. But finding this copy recently was amazing! It is a nice, large, 8×10 in excellent shape. What a delightful find!!
Happy Friday, I hope you make an amazing photo discovery very, very soon! xoxo
What year was this taken? It looks like it could be 2018!
Right?! It would have been taken between 1945 and 1960. I wish it was dated!!
Amazing the difference between the two pictures!
Thank you, Cathy. I am always impressed by her skills with both the camera and the paint. It really is incredible what differences you can make when altering a photo. 🙂
