Ellis Album

Black Ellis Album #1, Page 38

This album page appears to have included three photos originally, but now features two photos. I wonder if the missing photo of Gene was especially lovely and my great-grandmother removed it to share with Gene or one of her family members?

The first photo includes siblings Gene and Grant Huband. Grant’s mother adored his blond ringlets and would not cut them. My great-grandfather, Grant’s brother-in-law, reportedly cut them off when Grant was about six.1 This photo appears to have been taken before the infamous haircut.

The second photo is labeled “Beth & Cal Carr.” The bottom of the photo says “1917.”

Based on the children’s apparent ages in the photo, I believe I found them in Family Tree on FamilySearch—Calvin Brinton Carr, born 1910, and sister, Elizabeth Harriett Carr, born 1913.2

In 1920 the children and their mother, Emily Eugenia “Nana” (Brinton) Carr, were living with Tom and Mary McParland at 2665 Harrison Avenue, in Ogden, Utah. In 1930, the family of three were living at 2602 Adams Avenue, in Ogden, Utah.3

There is no obvious family connection between the Carr family and my great-grandparents. But the two Carr addresses were about seven and eight miles from my great-grandparent’s home at 2698 N 400 E in North Ogden, Utah.4 Some person or event likely brought the Carr and Ellis families together. Grandma Ellis preserved this sweet photo of the siblings in her album. I hope a Carr family member will come across the photo and confirm or refute my identification efforts.
