I love this photo! I’ve been looking forward to sharing it since my first pass through the album a few years ago. Leona Ellis is my great-grandfather’s niece. Isn’t she darling?

Correctly identifying Leona was fairly easy. I looked at the descendants of my 2nd great-grandfather, Frederick William Ellis, and found only one Leona in the right time period. Looking through her photos on FamilySearch, I found a photo of her wearing the same coat and hat with her dog and sled. That photo was uploaded by Leona’s niece. I love it when I don’t need to message lots of other FamilySearch users to help identify an individual in a photo!
This post is part of a series sharing this wonderful old family photo album. You can learn more about the album here. A digital version of this photo album can be viewed on Flickr here.
What a fun photo. I know what you mean about recognizing photos as something you want to write about. After doing a blog post every week for almost 7 years, I worry that I’m going to be running out of photos at some point! I keep discovering more, so that hasn’t been a problem yet.
I can relate to that! When I first started working on my family history I doubted that I’d ever have any old, original family photos. I was so wrong! Those precious old photos just keep finding their way to me. They fill an entire closet, many shelves, and a cupboard. I will be scanning and sharing photos for the rest of my life. A wonderful stewardship! ❤️
