Every album page brings up questions. This one has me hoping to identify Gilbert Cheney. The album creator, my great-grandmother, Blanche Octavia Huband, is the daughter of Hattie Margaret Cheney. It seems likely that Gilbert is related to my great-grandmother on her mother’s side of the family. But I have not previously identified a Gilbert Cheney in my family. So I turned to FamilySearch for some clues.
Hattie Margaret Cheney’s father was Joseph Thompson Cheney. I checked Joseph’s descendants in the Family Tree on FamilySearch, no Gilbert. So I went back to his father, Elijah Cheney, and checked his descendants and found one candidate—Gilbert Williams Cheney. Unfortunately, there are no photos attached to Gilbert on FamilySearch. I checked Ancestry and also struck out. But I did find photos of his wife, Vivian Rampton, on both websites. I messaged a few individuals who shared photos of her and hope that one of them will know if this gorgeous photo is of Gilbert and Vivian:
The next photo is of Margaret Noble Bevans, my great-grandmother’s first cousin.
The last photo is my favorite. This is my beautiful great-grandmother, Blanche Octavia Huband. Isn’t the photo stunning?
This post is part of a series sharing this wonderful old family photo album. You can learn more about the album here. A digital version of this photo album can be viewed on Flickr here.
Happy Monday, I hope you and your loved ones are happy, safe, and healthy! xoxo
ps—Our local family history center finally reopened! I’ve been back to my usual shift for the last three weeks. Yay! But . . . the new FamilySearch search results page popped up for me for the first time on Thursday night. I was helping a patron at the time. I could not figure out how to navigate that thing from my funny sideways angle as I coached the patron. I am not a fan. What about you? Do you like the new FamilySearch search results page?
