Check Your Messages — Something Cool Might Happen!

Do you check your messages on Ancestry, FamilySearch, MyHeritage, 23andMe, and all the rest of the genealogy websites you use?

Do you have an inviting profile?  Does it include a way to contact you?

If not, fix that.  I promise you, it is soooooooo worth it!

In July, I received an email from a stranger who works with the Weber County Heritage Foundation.  She was researching the cattle ranch owned by my great-grandfather, Rulon Powell Peterson.

This stranger who emailed me, found me on FamilySearch.  How do I know that?  The email address she used is only in my FamilySearch profile.  She must have looked Rulon up on FamilySearch, saw my name all over in his memories tab and decided to email me about her project.

The Weber County Heritage Foundation was creating a video about Rulon’s cattle ranch and wanted some stories and photos for their video.  I am delighted that I was able to help connect the historians with my great-uncle who shared a few stories and gave the foundation permission to use photos from his collection.

I LOVE the short video they created about my great-grandfather’s cattle ranch!

So what’s the lesson?

Have a friendly profile.  Include your contact information.  Check your messages.  Respond to your messages.

Something cool just might happen!!

The Weber County Heritage Foundation has created a bunch of very short videos highlighting different historical places in Weber County.  Each video is about one minute long.  They are very well done.  You can view their video list here.

Happy Thursday, I hope you and your loved ones are healthy and happy!  xoxo
