This photo is among the many photos my grandmother has given me. She told me that it is a picture of her mother Estelle and that it was taken in Montana. After I uploaded it, I was waiting for the page to load with the image. In the instant that the image popped up I was struck by the fact that this does not look like Estelle to me. Suddenly I am questioning this sweet little photo that I have loved well. Is it really my great grandmother? Is it one of her sisters? I think I need to do some comparing!
Good luck!
Thank you. I need to figure it out and update my siblings if it’s not ggma since I included this little shot in a Christmas gift a few years ago.
What a beautiful photo filled with motion! She is so pretty with a little determined chin. Wishing you luck!
Thank you Maryann! It is lovely isn’t it?
If your grandmother told you it was her mother, it seems strange that that would be untrue. Post some other pictures that you know to be Estelle so we can judge too! People definitely can look different at different ages and in different lighting.
Plus I don’t know your great grandmother’s dates. This picture looks like it was taken in the 30s, at the earliest. Wouldn’t your great grandmother have been too old?
My great grandmother was born in 1913, married in 1930.
Ah, that makes sense…the generations in my family are much longer. My 8 great grandparents were born between 1865-1892.
Isn’t it interesting how that can be so different? My eight were born between 1890-1913. Estelle is my youngest great grandparent. The next closest was born in 1905.
I will do that this week! I agree that you would think my grandma wouldn’t get that wrong, however the photo is only about 1 1/2 by 2 inches in size. Hence, the photo surprising me when it loaded so much larger on my computer screen.
It also depends on how old you grandmother was when she told you that and how well her memory was holding up. 🙂
We have a couple family pictures in which mothers and daughters were confused, but only by looking at the clothing styles can the women be determined.
Yes, for sure. My grandmother was about 80 when she identified the photo. I posted several other photos to compare today. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
