Inspired: I’m Leaving on a Jet Plane!

Maybe.

I’m not really sure what the difference between an airplane and a jet plane is.

Either way I’m flying to Spokane for a visit with family.  I’m going to stay with my mom’s only sister, my fabulous Aunt Vicki.  My mom & sister are driving up to meet me.  We are planning to have a family history weekend interviewing my grandparents, taking photos etc.

I. Can’t. Wait.

Are you wondering what prompted my trip?  Well, after watching the Discovery Channel mini-series Klondike and having my A-HA! moment, I realized I need to interview my grandma again while I still can and ask her about this.  It was on my mind when I read this excellent article here.  That pushed me over the edge and I made plans and booked a flight on the plane that is possibly a jet, definitely flies in the air, and is hopefully newer and larger than the airplane pictured above.

Before I go I have a checklist of very important pre-trip tasks:

  • Re-listen to the recording of my great-grandpa {father of the grandma I am visiting} being interviewed by my mom.  Take notes – generate a list of questions.
  • Scan the rest of the Duval family photos so I can click through them with grandma and make sure I know who everyone is, what the stories behind the photos are etc.
  • Buy a couple memory cards so we can video everything and not run out of space.
  • Write down questions – group them – highest priority items and then the rest by category.
  • Learn about this, maybe it would be better than a video recording?  If not, maybe the questions would be great to use.
  • Make a decision about other older relatives to visit.  There are several of them living in Spokane but I only have a few days so I must prioritize!

I’m so glad I read Amy’s post – Just Go Do It. Now.  Her article pushed me to act on the prompting I had been feeling to go visit my grandparents.  I’m doing it!  So to Amy who will probably not read this, thank you for inspiring me.

Who do you need to call or visit?
