Ellis Album

Black Ellis Album #1, Page 47

This album page includes two delightful photos taken “After a ‘Slumber Party,'” 6 August 1916.

The first photo is unlabeled.

The second photo includes my great-grandmother, Blanche Octavia Huband, 1895–1984, the album’s creator.

Blanche was twenty-one and single in August 1916. I don’t recognize the home so I’m not sure if Blanche was the host or an attendee. Her use of quotation marks around “Slumber Party,” suggests slumber parties may have been new or a novelty in her community. Or perhaps taking a photo after the slumber party was new. Either way, this is a sweet glimpse into her young adult years. I’m glad she preserved this memory with the caption she chose.

Does anyone recognize her friends? I’d love to identify them.
