Trying to Organize all of the Irons in the Fire

When I help someone who has just begun their love affair with all things genealogy, they often ask the same basic question.  The words may be different but the sentiment is the same.  When they ask it, they usually have wide, excited eyes.  Their speech can be a touch more intense than their normal cadence.  Sometimes they are gesturing wildly as they ask, “How do you get anything done doing this?!  I go looking for one thing and then get distracted by 37 other cool things that I don’t want to forget about and I totally lose track of how I got there in the first place!  I feel like I can’t focus on any one thing!”

Yes.  True.  That happens ALL. THE. TIME.

But.  It does get better.  You learn how to focus on a person or a parish or a family or some other specific thing.  You also get more comfortable with processing various pieces of information.  It gets better because you get better.

Here’s the problem though, the better you get, the longer your genealogy to-do list gets.

Mine is getting a bit out of control.  So when I read this post by Rachel over at It’s All Relative, I thought I would give Trello a try.

Guess what?  It’s pretty cool.  I’m not using it heavily but I am using it.  Hopefully it will help me get my many lists more organized and helpful.
