Ellis Album, Photo 70 – Claude & Blanche on Their Diamond Anniversary

ELLIS, Claude & Blanche, 60th Wedding Anniversary
Claude Albert Ellis & Blanche Octavia Huband on their 60th wedding anniversary, 22 November 1977.

Claude & Blanche are my great-grandparents.  Blanche is the creator of this album.  This photo was taken on their 60th wedding anniversary on 22 November 1977.

Eleven months and one week after this celebration, Claude would pass away on 29 October 1978.  Blanche lived for five and a half years without him before passing on 26 May 1984.

I was so young when they both died that I don’t have any memories of either of them.  But I sure love them.  They must have been such wonderful parents to raise my Grandma to be who she was.  I’m so thankful for their goodness and love.  In particular, I am thankful for their 60 years, 11 months, and one week of marriage that left such a wonderful legacy through their four children and many generations of grandchildren.

This photo comes from the thirty-third page of the album.  Here are pages thirty-two and thirty-three to give context for this photo:

  1. It is a lovely photo; their quiet love just shines through.

My great grandparents also celebrated their 60th anniversary (complete with a telegram from the Queen), but such long marriages are probably increasingly rare, as people marry later and divorce more.

I realised recently that my dad has been married for exactly sixty years — just not to the same woman. 😀

    1. Thank you, Su! “Quiet love” seems to be a perfect term for what I knew of them. ❤️

Wow – 60 years! Amazing. I had to laugh at the “just not to the same woman” comment because it makes me think of my own grandmother and her many, many marriages. 😉

Sorry, I’m so slow to respond. I hurt my back and it’s been a rough and slow recovery. I’m just now starting to feel normal-ish.

      1. I’m so sorry to hear about your back. It’s an ongoing problem for me (so much so that my son’s godfather is our chiropractor), so I totally sympathise. Hope you’re feeling better really soon. Take care.

        1. Thank you, Su. I have a really good physical therapist and that’s helping a lot, I just kept trying to do too much too fast and it was a bad cycle there for a while. But, it’s much, much better today and yesterday. Hooray!!

    1. Thank you, Amy! It was good (despite my pitiful state at the time, thank goodness my sister was doing most of the cooking). ❤️
