These are my 3rd great-grandparents John Baptiste Jerrain & Esther Estelle Therien. They were both French. He was born in France and immigrated to the US as an infant. She was born in Québec and immigrated to the US as a toddler.
John & Estelle are the grandparents of my great-grandma Estelle who is the photographer. Like her grandma, Estelle was great-grandma’s middle name but the one she always used.
This photo is a scan of a color copy of the original. I would love to get my hands on the original and see the cool details of her hat! I think this is the only photo of Estelle that I have. I am so thankful for it. ❤️
Happy Thursday, I hope you make a photo connection with a cousin very soon! Jerrain cousins, I have so much coming your way – hopefully next week. But, the deluge… I may just have to take a break from researching and WRITE. But it’s so hard to set the discoveries down! xoxo

What a great photo! Is the sailboat a photographer’s prop? I don’t think I’ve seen any photographs like that before.
Thank you, Sue! I don’t know. My guess was a photographers prop but they did live in Chicago so I suppose either is possible. 🙂
What a wonderful photo! He looks so dapper. I’m not sure she’s enjoying sailing, if indeed they really are!
Thank you, Nancy! I don’t know if they are sailing or sitting in a photographer’s studio. But you are right, he definitely looks dapper!
I also wondered whether that was a real sailboat or a prop. Where would they have been sailing, and who could have taken the photo?
I don’t know if they are sailing or sitting in a studio. They lived in Chicago so I could go either way on what’s possible. I do think they look rather calm and not blurry so I’m leaning towards a studio. 😉
That’s my impression also. A camera would have to have a pretty fast shutter speed to catch them that still on the water!
