Photograph Showcase: Grandma Margaret and her Violin

ELLIS, Margaret playing her violin - smaller

This beautiful photo of my Grandma was found amongst a bundle of negatives from her collection.  Because it was a negative, there is no information about the photograph.  I know that it is my Grandmother, Mary Margaret Ellis.  She played the violin and the piano.  She also had a beautiful singing voice.  I love seeing her here as a young, and clearly dedicated, musician.  Isn’t she darling?

What a treasure!

ps – I will be in letter sorting heaven for the next few days while most of my family is on a boys only adventure.  Would it be rude to put a Do Not Disturb sign on my front door?  😉

*Post updated with photo turned to the correct direction.  Grandma was right handed and her sister noticed that the original posting had the photo backwards.

    1. Thank you Luanne! My great aunt, her younger sister, pointed out today that it’s backwards – she was right handed. Haha. I knew would have noticed. Scanning negatives is a tricky business. 😉

  1. I love this….it reminds me of a childhood photo of my mother-in-law, Ann Shoup Kamins Curren Winstead. I never met her in this life, but look forward to a heavenly introduction some day. Since we only have a few photos of my husband’s mother it is truly treasured! How blessed you are to have discovered this tiny treasure!!! Blessings, Valerie

  2. It’s a beautiful picture but I’ll go right to the point! Put that sign on your door and get to those letters. Feel no guilt! How often do mothers get uninterrupted time? Use that time to do what you enjoy and recharge your own batteries in the process. Your whole family will benefit.

    1. Thank you Elaine! It’s so true. If only I were actually alone… the 5 year old was too little to go. 😉 But, he is a super independent kiddo so he lets me get lots done.

  3. Wonderful photo! When I remember my grandparents I try to picture them not as old & gray but young and full of life. Just like this photo.

    1. Thank you Ann Marie, I really love this little gem. And thank you for the encouragement. I didn’t put the sign up, but I got everything filed – happy, happy day!
