Our Favorite Noodle

Noodle, our beloved dog

Noodle joined our family about 5 years and 5 weeks ago when she was just about to turn 7.  On Sunday morning, a few minutes before 4 am, Noodle died surrounded by myself, my husband, and our 14 year old son.  She was 12 years and 1 week old, exactly.  It was heartbreaking.

We have been very tearful the past two days.  One of the hardest things was telling our almost 18 year old son.  He was in Mexico helping to bring an orphanage up to code during his Spring Break.  He returned home 13 hours after Noodle died.  Noodle loved him best and he was totally devoted to her.

Monday morning I spent a few hours going through my photos on Flickr.  I found 81 photos with Noodle in them.  I tagged her in each one and created an album of those photos.  I found some really sweet shots.  I know I have many more because my Flickr account has only a fraction of my photos uploaded into it.  I want to get the rest on there and see what other sweet photos of Noodle I have.

My mind has been busily thinking of different things I can do with the photos and videos to help my children memorialize our beloved dog.

Here is a sample of the sweet images I found.

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. It hurts losing a pet, they’re a member of your family. Take comfort in knowing you gave Noodle a great home in her senior years. You made a huge difference in her life.

    1. Thank you! We really loved her. She has had an interesting life for a dog. Her first family got her as a puppy. The mother of the human family was pregnant with baby number 7 when she was diagnosed with leukemia. They couldn’t treat her until the baby was delivered and she needed to go another 8 weeks before they could do an early c-section. The doctors made them move into a brand new place so it was sterile and they had to get rid of their pets. They didn’t want to part with Noodle. We were happy to adopt her and she went from a big, loud family of 8 to our little family of 4. She loved the relative peace and quiet. Then when I was pregnant with our youngest she was very watchful of me. He was born 5 weeks early and spent 10 days in the NICU. She was a bit distressed during that time and when we finally brought him home she jumped up on the back of the couch so she could get a good look at him. Her relief was evident. Then of course she got to live out her senior years with a noisy toddler/preschooler who liked to dress her up. 😉

  2. I am so sorry. We pour so much love into our pets, knowing that their time with us is too short even when they live a full life. Even though we know that, it’s always a shock when we lose them. My heart goes out to you and your family.

  3. I am so sorry! Your pictures show a lot of love between your family and her. It looked like a good life! You and your family are in my thoughts

  4. What a sweet dog!!! I’m so sorry for the loss of your beloved family member! It sounds like it was not something expected, but that you were with her in her final time, which is what is so important to our fur babies when they go. Hugs to you and your family.

    1. Thank you Luanne. She had congestive heart failure and had for a year and a half but she took a very quick turn on Saturday so while we knew it was coming it was also a shock.

      1. When my oldest cat passed away last summer he had been plagued with health problems for 2-3 years, but he seemed to go on and on like that for so long and then suddenly he began failing quickly :(.
