Spaghetti Trees?

In honor of April Fools’ Day I thought I would share this prank that aired on 1 April 1957 on the BBC program Panorama.

Apparently, spaghetti was not very well known in the UK and many residents contacted the BBC for information about growing spaghetti trees.  According to wikipedia, CNN called this broadcast “the biggest hoax that any reputable news establishment ever pulled.”

The line that really made me chuckle came at the very end when the narrator says, “For those who love this dish, there’s nothing like real homegrown spaghetti.”

Are you a prankster?  Were any of your ancestors fans of this silly holiday?  I’m not usually one for April Fools’ Day jokes but maybe I should try to trick my teenagers today.  Hmmm…

  1. My husband I tend to try and trick my stepson with little things like – cats have fur trousers that they have to pull down to go to the toilet. That is the current one we are going with lol.
